Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC)?

Per the Healthy Children Project, Inc., “The Certified Lactation Counselor® (CLC) certification is the premier National Certification in Lactation Management in the United States. LCTC and CLC exam certification holders have demonstrated competence in the lactation skills, knowledge and attitudes that are essential to helping women and have agreed to comply with The Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice code of ethics.

CLC certification means that a person has received training and competency verification in breastfeeding and human lactation support, including assessing the latching and feeding process, providing corrective interventions, counseling mothers, understanding and applying knowledge of milk production including in special circumstances and other commonly encountered situations.”

How do I know if I should reach out?

There is no “right” time. If you’re pregnant, adopting, experiencing challenges latching, having pain while nursing or pumping, planning to wean, or just wanting some extra guidance, now is the perfect time. If you’re wanting extra support to manage meltdowns, undesirable behaviors, or foster more of a connection with your child, I’m here for you! It’s never too early or too late.

How do you protect my privacy?

Every measure is taken to ensure HIPAA compliance and make sure your Protected Health Information (PHI) is kept private and secure.

Do you take insurance?

Unfortunately, I’m not able to accept insurance at this time. However, I am happy to provide you with a Superbill for your lactation services for you to submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement. Additionally, Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Savings Account (FSA) cards can be used for lactation services. Please note that submitting a Superbill to your insurance does not guarantee reimbursement. Please contact your insurance company to see what applies to you individually. Payment plans may be available on request.

What is a Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE)?

How do virtual visits work?

To ensure a secure session, I use doxy.me for all virtual visits. Prior to your appointment time, you will be asked to complete intake forms through GSuite’s Google Forms.

You will need an internet connection as well as a phone, tablet, or computer with video and microphone access. During your appointment, it may be easiest to have another adult to manipulate the camera to best observe you with baby. We will likely need different angles for a complete assessment.
